Your braces have come off, now what?
You’ve patiently waited for your braces to come off, and that day has arrived. So does that mean your orthodontic journey is over? Not quite. While your braces have done their part in straightening your teeth, you need to do your part in maintaining that lovely smile.
After braces are removed, your teeth may have a tendency to shift back into their original positions. This is why your orthodontist may recommend you wear a retainer. Retainers can help to maintain the alignment achieved by braces as they continue to hold your teeth in place. While initially you may need to wear your retainer for most of the day, over time the duration may be reduced to wearing it at nighttime only. Follow the advice of your orthodontist to ensure you are using your retainer properly.
Going forward, maintaining your oral hygiene is also vital. This includes effective brushing after every meal, flossing daily, and having regular dental checkups.
By doing your part you can ensure that your smile remains healthy and radiant for many years to come. Questions? Email us using the form on our website here or call our office at 705-268-8400.
