Pros and Cons of Ceramic Braces
Recently on our Facebook page, we looked at what ceramic braces are. Today on our blog we will break down the pros and cons of ceramic braces, helping you to make an informed choice.
Pros
-Ceramic braces are coated with a compound that matches the colour of your teeth making them less visible from near or far.
-They are a discreet option for people who have severe cases of misalignment that clear aligners won’t work for.
-They don’t interfere with imaging tests like metal braces can.
Cons
-They tend to be more expensive than metal braces because of the materials used to construct them.
-They can stain. The biggest disadvantage is in keeping them clean and certain food and drink that can cause permanent staining of the brackets must be avoided.
-While they are durable, ceramic braces can be damaged. The ceramic material is more brittle than metal. As a result they require attention to cleaning and caring for them. They can break easier than metal braces which means that there may be additional trips to the orthodontist to replace them which can result in additional time and cost.”
