Making The Process of Getting Braces More Fun!

There are steps you as a parent or guardian can take to help make the process of getting braces more fun and entertaining for your child. Here are a few suggestions to help make the transition more enjoyable:

Celebrate the process

The night before your child gets your braces, plan a special meal and include the few foods your child will need to avoid after their braces are on.

Explore new recipes together

A lot of our patients find smoothies or slushies are a great choice following any teeth sensitivity they feel after adjustments. Try exploring new smoothie or slushie recipes and make them together, trying out different ingredients and low-sugar options.

Introduce humour early

Some kids feel self-conscious when smiling with their braces on at first. As a parent you can help them to navigate this hurdle quickly with a comedy movie marathon so they quickly get used to smiling and laughing with their braces on.

Encourage customization

Many parents don’t realize that braces can be customized and there are many colour combinations to choose from. Encourage your child to get creative with their braces by letting them pick out their own colour choices. Whether it’s orange in October for Halloween, green in December for Christmas, or their favourite colour on the month of their birthday, they can make their smile festive and fun.

With a little encouragement from you, orthodontic treatment can be positive and fun!
