What To Expect After Your Braces Come Off

The most anticipated moment in the orthodontic journey is the day you get your braces off. So, what can you expect when you get your braces removed? Keep reading to find out.

You will come into our office for an appointment with the time set aside for debonding (aka removing) your braces. Dr. Visconti will use special instruments to remove your brackets. During this process you may feel some pressure or hear noises as the braces come off. Don’t worry, this is an expected part of the process and won’t last long. When your braces come off, your teeth are going to feel different and it will be an adjustment to get used to not having them on.

While your braces have come off, it doesn’t mean the process is over. You will now be in what we call the retention phase where you will wear a retainer to keep your teeth in their new spot. If your retainer is not worn, your teeth will tend to move back. Be sure to follow our instructions for wearing your retainer and ask questions if you have any.

Finally, a reminder to not get complacent when it comes to your oral health. You’ve worked hard to keep up with a good oral health routine and now is not the time to stop. Keep practicing proper oral health so your new smile will be healthy for life.
